Google tests ad-supported video
August-2006
Google has been testing online video for several month, and is now adding advertising support for video.
Initial content will come from MTV, including plot line clips from upcoming third season of “Laguna Beach,” promotional clips for the MTV Video Music Awards Aug. 31 and episodic clips from Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
Is Google the next "television network"?
Google has the makings: Content. Delivery mechanism. Ad supported. Broad based access for "free" -- if you ignore the monthly cost of Internet service.
And they add their own specialty: search capabilities and targeted advertising. With the interactivity possible on the Web, sophisticated interactive "tv" is sure to follow.
