No Shame Theater and Shorts Festival - Cooperative Exhibition
The diverse range of films were written and created by over 40 members of No Shame Theatre, a Theatre group who create spontaneous revue shows on a weekly basis at the Powerhouse Theatre in Santa Monica. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets to the screening are $5. Valet parking is available. For ticket reservations, call The M Bar, Los Angeles at (323) 856-0036.
The first No Shame Theatre was created 20 years ago at the University of Iowa by student playwrights Todd Ristau and Stan Ruth. The first performance used as its stage the cargo bed of Ristaus green pickup truck, defiantly placed in the middle of the parking lot outside the Universitys EC Mable Theatre in Iowa City. Since then, branches have sprung up in New York, Miami, Chicago, Portland, St. Louis, Austin, Texas, Charlottesville, VA and other cities.
The Los Angeles chapter of No Shame Theatre was started three years ago by Artistic Director Jeff Goode (The Eight: Reindeer Monologue) and Executive Director, Brian Rochlin. The structure is, whoever shows up, gets to make the show, says Goode. Whats exciting is that you get to see things that people ordinarily wouldnt dare to do, because there would be a screening process and theyd be afraid of being eliminated. We hope that participants will perceive No Shame as a road to self-discovery rather than just another showcase for being discovered.
