The 3D Supply Chain is Blossoming
Avatar has put 3d on the movie map. It is being considered the "killer ap" for 3D home units. The movie Avatar sold more than 2 million units when it hit the retail market.
But that's not all that's bustin' out in 3D.
Roxio Video Lab 3D allows consumers to edit and burn personal 3D content on standard DVDs. The DVDs can then be played back on any standard DVD or Blu-ray player connected to 3D-enabled HDTVs or PCs and viewed with 3D glasses.
They enable Hollywood studios to publish content in the 3D format, says Sonic Solutions. Sonic has launched "Total 3D", a suite of consumer and professional products. They are rebranding RoxioNow movie-download service and Roxio CinePlayer BD, which allow consumers to watch 3D content (with 3D glasses) from online sources and convert 2D content on standard DVD to 3D.
Home entertainment production companies such as Ambient Digital Media are anticipating that the blow-out interest in 3D movies such as Avatar will translate into high demand for 3D home video titles.
Panasonic's 3D Blu-ray Disc players will embed the DivX Plus HD player, allowing for full 1080p DivX video playback. It will be released in Europe first.
