Podcasting Field Trips - Educational Technology in Practice
STHS OCEAN INSTITUTE COLLABORATIVE PODCASTING PROJECT
In 2009, more than 110 science students representing the three Orange County, CA Stellar Technology High Schools (Canyon, Century, and Trabuco Hills) along with students from Talbert Middle School, were bused to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point for an exciting field trip.
Students collected data and digital images to be used to produce educational podcasts designed to enhance the experience of future visitors to the Ocean Institute.
This innovative collaborative project motivates students through relevant learning experiences, integration of technology, production for a real audience, and the reward of community service.
Students also learned about Marine Protected Areas, a current topic of interest in the Orange County community, and participated in a mock stakeholder meeting.
