Climate Change Eco-spot Contest
Video has come of age in the green era. No longer are our cultural messages shaped in extravaganza location shoots that only the largest corporations can afford. Today's technologies of video and audio have met a new expectation. Grassroots are in. With low resolution cell phones and digital images on the Internet, our expectations are multi-dimensional. Yes, we enjoy the high production values of blockbuster films -- but we enjoy our buddies' self-produced videos and home grown movies just as much.
This is the age of social media. Google, Yahoo, MySpace, Facebook and now the contests. The base of amateur filmmakers is in place. Now come the platforms for their work to be shared just like beauty pageants and country fairs and bake-offs have been the social venue of their days.
:60 Seconds to Save the Earth
Al Gore is getting into the contest venue. Together with Current TV, there's a new contest called ":60 Seconds to Save the Earth"
Make a :15, :30 or :60 second ecospot about TAKING ACTION:
- Showcase how you, or someone you know, is taking action to alleviate the climate crisis in their own small or big way
- Ecospot guidelines:
- Make it powerful: make your viewers think and inspire them to act
- Start from scratch, or use the videos and music tracks below
- For inspiration and more information, visit the Alliance's website
...but participate. The new tools for communication are video, audio, digital photography and personal/shared expression of global ideas implemented locally!
Former presidential candidate Al Gore has launching a consumer-generated advertising contest to promote his environmental causes.
Gore made the announcement as he was being interviewed on “Larry King Live” about the Live Earth events. Gore was prominently involved in Live Earth, a series of musical concerts to raise awareness of global warming. The events took place Saturday night in at least eight concerts around the world headlined by 150 stars.
The contest, 60 Seconds to Save the Earth, lets consumers in the U.S., UK and Republic of Ireland submit 15-, 30-, or 60-second TV public service announcements through Sept. 12 that could be used as part of a new three-year ad campaign to raise awareness about global warming.
Current TV (DirecTV 366), a global television network that Gore helped create, will handle the contest, he said. The channel gives people the opportunity to create and influence what airs on TV, is handling the contest, according to information on its Web site. Gore is the chairman of Current TV.
