Sundance Channel goes green
A British Family Creates Completely ‘Green’ Household in BBC Television Series
New York, NY, October 23, 2006 – Sundance Channel has acquired the U.S television rights to “Its Not Easy Being Green,” an eight-part, half-hour documentary series from the BBC that follows a British family of four as they turn their backs on suburban life to create a completely green yet modern household in the country.
The series will premiere as part of Sundance Channel’s THE GREEN destination which launches in 1st quarter 2007. The acquisition was announced today by Laura Michalchyshyn, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Programming and Creative Affairs, Sundance Channel. The series was acquired from BBC Worldwide Americas and is produced by Jonny Young, Susanna Hardslip and Claire Martin.
"It's Not Easy Being Green" follows the Strawbridge family – parents Richard and Brigit and children Charlotte, 19, and James, 21 – as they move out of their comfortable home in the suburbs to a rundown farmhouse in Cornwall to pursue a completely green and self-sufficient way of life.
The Strawbridges, with the help of an eco-engineer and an experienced organic farmer, learn to wean themselves from their dependence on fossil fuel and live in ways that produce little to no waste – while also keeping their feet firmly planted in the 21st century. Projects featured on "It’s Not Easy Being Green" include a custom-made water wheel used to generate all of the electricity for the home, a shower heated by solar power, a permaculture garden, and the creation of homemade biodiesel fuel.
"Its Not Easy Being Green is a fascinating and thoroughly entertaining look at an ordinary family who have accomplished extraordinary things for the sake of living more responsibly," commented Michalchyshyn, "The result is truly inspiring, and this series is an exceptional addition to our lineup for Sundance Channel GREEN."
